What it does

Transmission parts transfer engine power to the drive wheels and let you change gears. Drivetrain parts carry power from the engine to the wheels; noise, vibration, slipping or leaks are the usual signs a part is due.

Installation & tips

• Use the transmission fluid type your vehicle calls for and check the level the way the manufacturer specifies.
• Transmission fluid: Fresh fluid after any work.
• Put the new part next to the old one and compare the shape, mounting points and connections before you install it.
• Work on a cool engine with the vehicle secured, and use a service manual for your vehicle for torque specs and procedures.
