What a crankshaft does
The crankshaft turns the up-and-down movement of the pistons into rotation. Performance builds use forged or stroker cranks.
Signs you need a new crankshaft
- Knocking from worn main or rod journals
- Low oil pressure from worn bearings
- Damage after a spun bearing
How to choose
- Match the engine, stroke, journal sizes and flange type.
- Fit new main and rod bearings, and have the crank checked by a machine shop.
