Collection: Ignition Coils

320 ignition coils listed by make, model, year and engine. Ignition coils turn battery voltage into the high voltage that fires each spark plug. A failing coil is a common cause of misfire codes such as P0300 to P0306.

Each listing shows the vehicles and part numbers it is listed for. Not sure it fits? Ask us before you order.

What an ignition coil does

The ignition coil turns battery voltage into the tens of thousands of volts the spark plug needs. Most modern engines have one coil per cylinder sitting right on the plug (coil-on-plug).

Signs of a bad ignition coil

  • Misfires and a flashing check engine light, with codes like P0300 or P0301 to P0308
  • Rough idle, shaking or hesitation
  • Loss of power and poor fuel economy

How to choose

  • Swap the suspect coil to another cylinder: if the misfire moves, the coil is bad.
  • Replace worn spark plugs at the same time. Old plugs with wide gaps overwork coils.
  • Some people replace all coils at once on high-mileage engines.

Ignition Coils FAQ

Should I replace all ignition coils at once?
Not required. Replacing only the failed coil is fine, though some owners replace all on high-mileage engines to avoid repeat failures.
Can a bad spark plug damage a coil?
Yes. A worn plug needs more voltage to fire, which stresses the coil.
